Sounds too good to be true? After having tried many different Russian
audio courses, I thought the same. For some reason the Russian-English
and English-Russian readings did not help me much to improve my
pronunciation. Neither did the recordings from Radio- and TV-
broadcasts I found on Internet. My Russian teacher in Moscow, Elena, a
Professor in Linguistics with an outstanding experience of teaching
Russian to foreigners, was almost ready to give up. And my laziness for
doing home-work didn't make things better.
Then I got the idea to record Elena's readings of some of the stories
she had collected and adapted during her many years as teacher. And I
started to listen, first passively, to those recordings in the evening,
before falling asleep. I couldn't believe my own progress! The next
day, after having listened, even while sleeping, to a story only once,
my Russian pronunciation and intonation were almost perfect. I didn't
even have any problem with new (for me), long, tongue-breaking words.
Then I started to check the written text Elena provided me and together
we went through the different grammatical examples she had "hidden" in

My Russian took quantum leaps. Now I listen almost every night, and
